This year will be my third Mother’s Day with Griffin. Every year I’m more and more grateful for the chance to be his mother. I dreamed about being his mother even before I met his father.
As an adoptee (is that the name?) there is something incredibly special about being able to form a relationship with someone who is biologically related to you. I met my birth mother many years ago but she passed away and with her death I’ve always felt this overwhelming since of being alone. That was until I met my son. Every time someone tells me I look like him or that he is my mini-me I swell with pride.
But, we all know that for every sunny day there are storms, and as much as you try and look for the light, sometimes it seems to disappear. On those days it can feel like you are not enough. Those days where you just want a moment of quiet and then you feel guilty for wanting that moment. Or the days where you clean up a room (finally) and turn around to see it destroyed. Let’s face it, this mom thing is hard. It’s the best job there is, but it is HARD.
This year for Mother’s Day I’m partnering with MantraBand to send a special message to moms around the world. You are enough. Even though some days it might feel like you are moving backwards, you are enough. That little one that is nonstop clinging to your hip even when you just want to go to the bathroom in peace, knows that you are enough. These beautiful bracelets are a perfect way to remind yourself that you are a super mom doing what you love.
When I look down at my bracelets, I remember that even on days where I’ve repeated myself a hundred times, that I’m enough. When we are both frustrated, I remember that I’m enough. When he won’t eat the dinner that he specifically requested, I’m enough. I’m doing my best, and for him, my best is good enough.
